Minori is a pretty village on the Amalfi Coast situated at only 4 Km from
Amalfi town. Once a place where noble Romans passed the summer months, which
can be seen in archeological findings from the first century, today Minori
is a well known tourist centre very much appreciated thanks to the mild
climate, favourable position, and its large and comfortable beach.
Minori is a also a synonym for flavor and exceptional food. Here you can
find some of the best restaurants (i.e. L'Arsenale, Giardiniello or Alta
Marea) and pastry stores (De Riso) of the Coast.
Since the 16th century its natives dedicated their time to the production of pasta from wheat imported
from Salerno; More recently, local agricultural producers have focused on
the production of various kinds of liqueur (made of lemons, mandarins,
strawberries and fennel) as well as sweets (for example delizia del limone -
lemon delight) that are now known nationwide. During the fine food festival
called "Gusta Minori" (Tastes of Minori), that takes place in early
September, visitors can sample local specialties and attend
theatrical performances based on chosen themes.
Very famous are also its lemon and orange groves, whose product is exported
all over the world. From the artistic point of view, we mention the remains
of a Roman Villa of the 1st century A.D. excavated in 1954. This imposing
construction and two other villas almost completely destroyed, bear witness
to the importance of this centre since antiquity, mainly as a holiday resort.
