Vietri Sul Mare

Vietri Sul Mare is located right at the start of the Amalfi Drive, the 50km stretch of spectacular coast-hugging road which links all the towns on Italy's Amalfi Coast.
Vietri is famous for its artistic ceramics which are produced in many factories among the inland hills. There are ceramic shops everywhere, filled with brightly painted jugs, vases, trays, plates and figurines. Buying in bulk means you'll easily slash prices in half.

Things to see

Church San Giovanni Battista

Built in 1732, Vietri's hilltop church has a beautifully tiled dome. Inside the church there is a polyptych dating back to the 16th century representing the Madonna with the Child, St. John and St. Andrew.

Ceramiche Solimene

The Solimene store is housed in an amazing spherical tiled building on the road to Salerno. Wander into the workshop next door for a brief look at how it's done. The majority of the guestrooms and lounges at the Santa Caterina are tiled by Solimene.
